About Us
Hirdre fawr is the ideal location for those wishing to visit the Llŷn Peninsula.
Centrally located in Tudweiliog (on the northern coastline of the Llŷn), it is within a short distance of most of the peninsula’s main attractions and close enough for those who wish to wander a little further afield towards Snowdonia, Caernarfon and Porthmadog.
Boasting stunning views across the Irish sea and towards the hills and countryside, the site is located adjacent to a working dairy farm with a stock of 360 dairy cattle.
About The Farm
Hirdre fawr is a working dairy farm with 380 dairy cattle roaming the fields.
The farm has been in the family for three generations with Robert and Annwen taking over responsibility of running the farm in 2008.
Guests are asked to be take note of the health and safety rules and signage in and around the farm. Should our guests be interested in gaining access to the milking barn, please send your request to Annwen or Robert.
The farm is also well known in the area for their potatoes. The rich, free draining soil near the coastline provides the perfect location to harvest high quality wilja potatoes when in season.
Be sure to ask Annwen and Robert for a bag to take home with you. They are available to purchase in 1 and 5kg bags and are very reasonably priced.
Spread across 4 fields, the site offers two areas designated for caravans, tourers and camper vans, one area for camping and another where both camping and touring share.
The touring pitches are contained within areas that are sheltered by trees and hedgerows. The main camping site is a large field with plenty of open space for children (and adults) to play games and for outside cooking and get togethers.
The site has private access down to the coastline where you will find Rhosgor beach.
Rhosgor Beach and Llyn Coastal Path
The small sand and pebble cove is perfect for children to go and explore the rock pools, collect shells or swim in the sea. It is a popular location for fishing off the rocks and a great place for kayaking.
But be warned, you will more often than not have to share the beach with a small herd of grey seals who are regularly seen resting on the rocks and on parts of the beach. They are extremely curious and on rare occasions can be seen swimming near bathers and kayakers.
The wreck of the Cyprian Steamship, which sank having struck rocks off Rhosgor on the 14th October 1881 and claimed 19 lives sits just a short distance away off the shoreline. It is a popular wreck for diving enthusiasts although not much of the wreckage remains today.
On the way to the beach you will also gain access to the Llŷn Coastal Path, which runs around the entire coastline of the Peninsula. It forms part of the all Wales Coastal Path and is very popular route for walkers offering fantastic scenery and access to some stunning coves and bays that can only be accessed by foot.
We are within walking distance of the local village of Tudweiliog where you find the local pub (The Lion Hotel) and a small shop / Post Office. Nearby Morfa Nefyn, Nefyn and Pwllheli provide more options for groceries and shops and are only a short drive away from the site.
Food Van
We operate a food van during Spring Half Term and Summer School holidays with appetising offerings for our guests that will include cooked breakfasts, hot drinks and snacks.
On Site Facilities and Site Rules
HIrdre Fawr offers a comprehensive list of facilties that includes Free WiFi, toilets, washrooms with coin operated showers, two family rooms that includes nappy changing units and one designated for the disabled.
The utility room provides access to washing up sinks, coin operated washing machines and dryer plus free use of refrigrators, freezers.
Electricity outlets are also available for charging your electronic devices.
Refuse and Recycling is located near to the utility rooms.
The large camping field offers ample space for children to play games and to enjoy the open air with a nearby playground with football goals.
- We are a dog friendly site but guests are kindly requested to keep their dogs on a lead at all times.
- We are a family site so quiet times are requested between 11:00pm – 7:00am.
- BBQ’s are permitted as long as they are raised off the grass and are fully exstinguished before you reitre for the night. Slabs and bricks are available on request.
